Although we are still months away from the Beastie Boys officially becoming a band, things begin to come together in 1980.

Michael Diamond and John Berry meet at John’s loft at 100th Street to jam together while Jeremy Shatan records the proceedings. Initially John plays acoustic guitar while Mike D joins in on his drum set. Before long the duo get a little more serious about their creative endeavors and invite an English girl named Brooke Pear to join them and be the group’s vocalist forming the group BAN.

In August of 1980, John Berry gets recruited to play in the band Even Worse when band member John Pouridas did not show for an afternoon performance at Tompkins Square Park. John Berry's final performances with Even Worse were on December 26th and 27th, 1980.

The Bag Ladies a memorable part of the early New York Hardcore (NYHC) punk scene from 1980-1981 are out going to see shows at places like A7 and hanging out with friends like Michael Diamond and John Berry.
