Does he look familiar to you? He
should. In the late 1990s, Spike was ubiquitous. He was
everywhere at once. You could turn on MTV and there he'd
be dancing in the video for Fatboy Slim's "Praise You"
or... if you went to the movie theatre you would see him
along side of George Clooney and Ice Cube in "Three
Kings".
Spike is far more than just an actor
though, he is also a photographer and director. You can
see some of his photographs of the Beastie Boys on the Beastie
Boys Video Anthology DVD. Also on the DVD are the music
videos he directed for the band. Sure Shot, Ricky's Theme,
and of course Sabotage were all products of Spike's genius.
In addition to his commentary on
the Beastie Boys Video Anthology DVD, Spike can also be
heard on the Free Tibet Feature Film DVD. The commentary
that organizer Adam Yauch and
director Spike Jonze lend to the DVD is worth the money
in and of itself.
When not working with the Beastie Boys, Spike keeps himself
occupied with working on music videos for other bands as
well as directing other movies such as the critically acclaimed
"Being John Malkovich." Spike was married to Sofia Coppola but has since divorced.
