"After touring for Check Your Head, we took a little break. I spent a month up in Valdez, Alaska to go snowboarding with some friends. Much to their chagrin, I brought along my upright bass so that I could practice when the weather was too bad for the helicopters to fly. The weather ended up being pretty bad. Right when I got back, in the spring of '93 we started recording Ill Communication at Tin Pan Alley. It was the first time we had worked in New York since making Licensed to Ill. It was nice to be back home. We would spend hours in the studio improvising to see what would come out
of it. 'Sabrosa' was the result of one of the better improvisations." - Adam Yauch, 1999
"We were vibing really well in the studio and we were just messing around when this song came about. Yauch had the bass line and we all just followed along. I know that there's a lot of songs/jams on those DAT tapes that Mario C. always had on. This one was always a favorite of mine to play live, and there is a live version on the 'Root Down' EP. We changed it up a bit live but that's the sprit of playing live." - Eric Bobo, March 2003
