Sarah (The Luscious Jackson Source)

We arrived at the Troubadour a bit late, but the opening act was just getting ready to go on. It was a band called Sissy Bar, comprised of 3 girls and 3 guys. It was kind of synth-pop/punk sort of sound with candy-coated vocals. Very fun and entertaining...especially the cover of Gin and Juice.
Luscious Jackson snuck up to the pre-show area (upstairs) during Sissy Bar's set. Of course my eyes kept glancing up to the windows, catching glimpses of Jill and Kate.
[time passes]
The band finally came on stage to thunderous applause and cheers from the somewhat small, but, nevertheless, sold-out crowd. FASHION REPORT...Jill was wearing a skirt and a light button down dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up a bit (if I can remember correctly). Viv was wearing a solid color dress and some really fun strappy heels. Gabby was wearing jeans and a sweater. Kate was wearing long pants and a flannel shirt with a white shirt underneath.
Where to begin...first of all, I was in the very front. Not dead-center, but slightly to the right (my right). Unfortunately some of Kate's drum paraphernalia were kind of blocking her from my vision, unless she moved a little bit. Jill was slightly to the left (if I was staring perpendicular to the stage, I would be looking at Kate). Viv was slightly to my right.
This was my first time seeing LJ live and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was hoping they'd play Pele Merengue and guess what the first song was? Pele Merengue.
I shall recount the more newsworthy portions of the show. A friend of mine, who had been the transport for my sister and I to the show, successfully perplexed Viv by singing along with _every_ song...including the ones off their yet to be released album. (the friend got an advance copy of Fever In Fever Out)
I was taking pictures during the show and Kate saw that I was trying to get one of her, so she started posing for the camera (it was quite funny). Unfortunately, only one of the pictures I took that night turned out (and it wasn't the one of Kate).
Went up on stage for their little dance number. I think Kate was the only one that remembered it. Viv gave up after awhile and was just laughing at the two guys playing bongos. (LJ's producer and a guy from the audience).
After the last song, my friend and I got a picture with Viv (didn't turn out!) and I snagged Kate's set list off her drums. We hung out for a little longer, cuz I wanted to meet the band. During my wait, we found the last remaining poster. It was in the bathroom. (unrelated note: "Stereolab only!!" "Laetitia Sadier is God," and "Justine [Frischmann, I assume] is God!" were found written on the bathroom doors). Also tried to get upstairs (friend I was with had passes), but apparently you have to be 21 to get up there, so that didn't work. The day after, my friend also was informed that we all could've gone up for a meet-and-greet for the band on top of the Capitol Records building! Her boss forgot to tell her before we went to the show!!! AHHH!! Oh well. I digress...
About twenty minutes later, each band member straggled back into the room. First I hit up Kate for an autograph, who apparently can only use a Sharpie to sign things, so she dug out her own pen. She signed "Yo Sarah!" or something. She asked me a couple of things, but I can't even remember what was said. I was just in a daze. Then I asked each of the other band member for an autograph. I couldn't really speak because was in a dream-like state.
Then I remembered that our very own web-mistress, Sara, had asked me to say hello to Kate for her. I think my actual wording was: "Hey, that annoying girl in New Jersey that does your web page says 'hi'." And to that, Kate smiled and gave a little roll of her eyes.
