Alabama Journal, July 25, 1986 One of the hottest music groups in the entertainment industry, Run-DMC, will headline a concert in Montgomery at 8 p.m. Saturday at Garrett Coliseum as part of the "Hell Raising Tour." Special guest performers include LL Cool J, Whodlni, Timex Social Club and the Beastie Boys. Recently, the groups have had great success with their rap sound. Run-DMC was the only rap act to play at the Live-Aid benefit concert in Philadelphia. It also was the first rap group ever to perform on Dick Clark's "American Bandstand." In addition, Run-DMC was one of the groups featured on the "Sun City" anti-apartheid record. The band members also have starred in a full-length movie about their careers so far, "Krush Groove." The group, composed of Rappers Run (Joseph Simmons), DMC (Darryl McDanlels) and Jam Master Jay (Jason Mizell), has released several hit albums, including "Run-DMC" and "King of Rock." Hits include "It's Like That Sucker M.C.'s," "Hard Times Jam Master Jay," "Rock Box 30 Days" and "Hollis Crew." LL Cool J, a 17-year-old rapper and songwriter, released his first album, "Radio," recently. He also starred in "Krush Groove" and "Wildcats." Born James Todd Smith, LL Cool J currently is writing songs and touring the country with Run-DMC. Whodini, also a popular rap group, recorded its first hit album, "Magic Wand," in 1982. It was an immediate international hit, reaching the charts In the United States, England, Germany, Brazil, France and several other countries. In the three years since the band's debut, the trio has recorded two more hit albums, "Escape" and "Back in Black." "Escape" currently reigns as the most popular rap album of all time. The group is composed of Jalil Hutchins, Ecstasy (John Fletcher) and Grandmaster Dee (Drew Carter). All tickets are $12.50.
