Note the following narrative was provided by Jeremy Shatan who recorded it
on Saturday, June 20, 1981 in his diary. It is retold here with his permission. After an hour or so, we got over to the Warehouse. It's a pretty neat place. They use this huge service elevator as a bar, which travels between floors. It was decided that we would play a little, then UXA, then us again. It was so smooth! Mike said that UXA were in a metal mood, but they didn't sound too bad to me. After their set, the D.J. started doing his thing. So we waited a little while. We went on. Even smoother!! People even came from upstairs and started dancing! After the set when we were packing up, this guy came up to us and said we were hot and that he would definitely see us again. He had some dubious connections and would try and get somebody to write us up! After we got all the stuff to the elevator, Dede told us that the van wouldn't be there till 2:00 P.M.! ( was now 5:45 A.M.). After drinking and talking (Dede said that we could probably headline the Warehouse in a couple of weeks) we left, leaving Dede to watch our equipment. Mike and I went uptown. I got home at 7:00 A.M. Dad had the nerve to ask me to make breakfast. I took my shower and waited for the rest of the house to wake. We ate breakfast at 9:30 A.M. and left for the Berkshires at 11:45A.M. Greg said that we were good. I think so too! Note: we got $15 for the Warehouse gig. The Primitives got $35 for 171A and they didn't give us a cent! They were pretty pissed though, as they tried to go on after us and everyone walked out! We blew them away. They broke up! The singer was planning to quit anyway because the guitarist would not stop playing The Munsters theme song! |
