What a phenomenal day. It all started when I called in to get stand-by tickets for the Letterman show on Tuesday. I knew my chances of getting in were slim and my gut feeling was right. I missed out, only 14 were taken and I wasn't one of them. So I'm about to walk away when all of a sudden the b-boys walk out of the studio. They proceed to go thru a dry run of Ch Check It Out. I was stoked that the performance would be of the indoor/outdoor variety. After the warm up I jetted back to my place (luckily I live just 3 blocks from where they tape it) and I grabbed my digital camera and sprinted back. For the next hour I stressed out and analyzed just how I was going to get close enough to take some sweet shots of the Beasties. I knew I'd have to deal with security, the cops, photographers, and thousands of people blocking my way. As it turned out I did get blocked and the pictures you see are the few that are worth viewing. Even my money shot was partially blocked by the security guy in the suit, but the whole scenario was cool nonetheless. I would've been bummed if I got a ticket and then missed out on all the action on 53rd street. I've been a b-boys fan since 1985 and this experience definitely makes my top 10 list of Beastie Boys encounters.
